Curriculum Committee Rep Duties
From GSLISWiki
Every year, one PhD Student and one Masters Student Representative is elected (or simply nominated if there is no competition) to serve on the Curriculum Committee.
[edit] Responsibilities
Curriculum Committee Reps have the following duties:
- Attend every Curriculum Committee meeting. If they cannot attend, then it is their responsibility to find a substitute for that meeting. This substitute can be either one of the other reps, or another student who is willing to take over for that meeting.
- Distribute meeting minutes to the PhD students. I don't think the Masters student rep is required to distribute minutes to the Masters Students.
- Depending on who the chair is, meeting minutes may require a bullet point summary, since most PhD Students won't have the time to read them carefully (or at all).
- Obtain student input regarding the curriculum, or about particular classes they would like to see.
- Linda Smith asks for this as well, so you may want to forward her any requests you get.
- Represent student interests during the committee meetings.
- Communicate any decisions of import to the students you represent.
- Serve as a substitute if one of the other representatives (faculty, DSC for the PhD rep) cannot make it to their meeting.
[edit] Meeting Times & Scheduling
Curriculum Committee meetings are scheduled as often as needed, but there are no regular times for these meetings. Thus, you will need to contact your chair to see when he or she is planning on scheduling meetings. Scheduling these meetings is very difficult because so many people's schedules need to be integrated.
