While there has been talk of redesigning the LEEP program for the last three years or so, it has finally been made a priority.

[edit] LEEP: The Next Generation

The LEEP program is one of the top Distance Education programs in the country, and has a history of pioneering technology, pedagogy, and research in internet-based distance education. We are currently at a stage where the program has become stable, but the technological infrastructure is getting older, and we want to start thinking about upgrading the infrastructure before it becomes critical. Also, given recent advances in research and technology, we believe that there is a new opportunity to look at the program as a whole, and evaluate what is working well, and what needs improvement, so that we can keep LEEP at the cutting edge of Distance Education.

Because LEEP is so successful, we don't want to inadvertantly break the program while attempting to improve it. Therefore, we are taking this opportunity to do a requirements analysis to ensure that any changes we make will improve the program. We hope to do this requirements analysis using Participatory Design methodology as much as possible, so we heartily encourage any and all of you to contribute to our planning.

We have decided to post our progress on the unofficial GSLIS Wiki because we want all members of GSLIS, past and present, to feel free to post their thoughts and comments, and help us create the process by which the LEEP program is redesigned, so we are putting ownership of the requirements analysis in the hands of the members of GSLIS, and keeping it from being owned solely by the administration of the department. We commit to taking all comments made on the wiki seriously, and to using this information as an integral part of the redesign process.

[edit] We Need Your Help

Here are some pages we would love to have people contribute to so that we don't inadvertantly break the LEEP Program:

  • LEEP Program Features -- what we like about the current LEEP program that we want to be sure to preserve.
  • LEEP Wishlist -- what kind of changes we would like to make to the existing program to improve it.
  • GSLIS Values -- an attempt to make explicit the values of GSLIS as a whole, and the LEEP program in particular. This way we have a reference we can use to make sure that any new technologies or administrative structures that are incorporated into the program uphold our values.
