[edit] Formal New PhD Student Orientation

The formal New PhD Student Orientation for 2005 will be held on Monday, August 22, 2005

3:00 pm - Getting Started

• All new PhD students will meet with the New PhD Student Orientation Committee in the Doc Study along with any PhD student volunteers who are able to make it.
• New students will be given the PhD Student Orientation Guide handout, as well as a copy of this schedule.

• We will also present an overview of the PhD program at GSLIS

• Other Issues:
  • Dean Unsworth has offered to set up a special meeting with the new PhD students if they are interested in meeting with him.
  • Sue Searing is willing to offer a special library tour for the new students to acquaint them with the available resources in the LIS Library.
  • Those who cannot attend the meeting want to send their greetings and welcome the new students to the department
  • Graduate Teaching Certificate
  • Research Writing Group

4:00 pm - Pizza with all PhD Students, Faculty, and Staff

• Introductions
• Eat and Socialize

5:00 pm - Optional Tour of GSLIS

• For anybody who wants one.
