Pauline Cochrane
From GSLISWiki
Professor emerita.
"Pauline Atherton Cochrane has been contributing to library and information science for fifty years. Think of it--from mid-century to the millennium, from ENIAC (practically) to Internet II (almost here). What a time to be in our field! Her work on indexing, subject access, and the user-oriented approach had immediate and sustained impact, and she continues to be one of our most heavily cited authors (see JASIS, 49[4], 327-55) and most beloved personages." from her festschrift "Saving the User's Time through Subject Access Innovation: Papers in Honor of Pauline Atherton Cochrane" Edited by William J. Wheeler, 2000. ISBN 0-87845-108-0.
She teaches Thesaurus Construction, 590TC, Indexing and Abstracting, 590I, and Classification Systems 590CS. Many faculty members express envy about "getting to take a class with the famous Pauline Atherton." She has previously taught at Syracuse and she developed the American Institute of Physics subject headings.
