Here are some places I go for lunch. All walking distance from GSLIS. -- Gina 13:29, 28 Dec 2004 (EST)

Contents

[edit] American

  • Murphy's
  • Legend
  • Panera [closed]

Soup and Salad. Expect a long line here.

  • Cafe Luna

Bring your guests here. They try to look fancy at least. -_-a

  • Wonderdog

Probably the only place where you can get hotdogs around here... Except Niro's.

  • IHOP

Open 24 hours. You can get your pancakes here.

  • Illini Union Ballroom

Lunch Buffet. A decent place to bring your guests. Students get some discount with ID.

[edit] Sandwich Places

  • Jimmy John's

A good sandwich that was better when they had a toaster. Never eat the big sub before going to class, you will fall asleep. Employees must say hi to you. Even if you aren't eating at the there, they have to. Apparently a local nutcase started the resteraunt. Walls are covered with silly situationalist style slogans that relate to sandwiches. Like, eat more sandwiches.

  • Potbelly's

A totally good sandwich. They have a toaster. More kitchy crap on the walls than Jimmy Johns. It's like a less country Cracker Barrel. House brand of potato chips are not great.

  • Silver Mine

Silver what now?

  • Subway

Horrible sandwich. May as well be Burger King. No toaster. No crap on the walls.

[edit] Korean

  • Woori Jib

Safe Choices: Beef & pork BBQ, Bibimbab (Rice mixed with veggies, meat and hot sauce. You can also get it without meat.)

  • Woojung

Inexpensive lunch specials.

  • Dorukas
  • Arirang

BBQ is supposedly quite good, especially the beef. Sort of pricey (most dishes over $6)

[edit] Chinese

  • HOG (House of Gourmet)

I usually get today's special.

  • EVO (Bubble Tea Place)

2-Entree Plate + 99¢ bubble tea

[edit] Indian

  • Bombay Grill

Chicken Makni is pretty good. Don't forget the Mango Lassi.

The Chicken Jalfrazi is fantastic. So is the Lamb Vindaloo. For my money, the best Indian place in town.

[edit] Pseudo Italian

  • Za's

Tiramisu's pretty good.

[edit] Supposedly Mexican

  • Qdoba

A fake Chipotle. Their burritos have rice and they have cheap domestic beer specials.

  • Chipotle

A real Chipotle. You can place your order online, and thus plan what time of day you want to feel horrible.

  • La Bamba

Burritos as big as your head. Big does not necessarily mean good. Your head does not neccesarily have to be big to eat at this resteraunt.

  • El Desmadre [Closed]

Try the Milanesa (deep fried steak) burrito.

[edit] Closest to Japanese

  • Sushi San (@ the Union)

I like the orange roll. Beef bowl is okay too.

[edit] Greek (Almost)

  • Zorba's

They have spicy cucumber sauce!

  • Niro's Gyros

I usually get the double plate. They have the best fries. Yum! (Not recommended if you're carb conscious.) They're the only place to get your Chicago-style fast food stand experience here in town with 4 locations (one on University near Grainger and one near 1st and Green).

  • Pita Pit

A chain with sandwiches in pitas. Has interesting decorations of crazed vegetables.

[edit] Lebanese

  • Jerusalem (North of Green on Wright)
Jerusalem is NOT at all about ambiance. It really isn't. Generally the man who works there is gruff, and their change is always very very cold. They do not take credit. They do have pretty good food though. I recommend the plate of the day (which comes in a vegetarian option) or the Shawarmas. MMMM.
